It only took three months for a process that should take at most 3 weeks. We closed on our property in October. I received the Deed in the mail today. In August of 2023 my wife and I looked at several vacant parcels, trying to find our future home.
We found it at the end of a gravel road, actually beyond the end of a gravel road. Half a mile beyond the end of the road as a matter of fact, down a two-track at the edge of government land, surrounded by thousands of acres of forest. As fate would have it the purchase process took all of September and most of October, ruining our plan to break ground before winter.
Anyone who is familiar with Northern Michigan knows that construction in the winter is technically possible, but when it’s just myself, my wife and my son doing the work, waiting until spring is the best course of action.
So here we are, Deed in hand, finances ready to build, and two feet of snow blocking access to the property and covering the site. So, although it’s progress, it’s at a snails pace for now. So here is what it looks like, in the warm months. We’re all excited to get started!
